Bugnosis

Today I found out about a great freeware program called Bugnosis. This small application scans web pages as you surf, checking them for web bugs. What's a web bug? These are small graphic images, usually 1x1 pixels in size, which are used to track your movements across the internet.
So why should you care? Well, if you don't mind companies building up massive profiles of every site that you have ever visited, then just surf somewhere else and forget all about web bugs. If the concept of being watched by nameless, faceless companies does make you pause, then check out this product.
The sample page below shows an example of what a page looks like after Bugnosis is through with it. I set the options to show a small bug graphic when a web bug is found. Thus, each and every bug image is a web bug.
For a free product it's pretty cool. And if you are anything like me, this knowledge will make you want to run out and purchase AdSubtract PRO - to remove most of the web bugs once and for all.
