WinZip
There is a problem that everyone who has any presence on the internet faces on a daily basis. That is the problem of space and bandwidth. Yes, we would all like to download huge pictures, massive programs and awesome games. Unfortunately, these things all require space (disk space) and bandwidth (which increases download times).
A few years ago Phil Katz invented a compression format called "zip", which he placed into the public domain. Many products were created which use the algorithm to compress and decompress files. One of these products is called WinZip.
I like WinZip because it is so full featured. It supports just about everything you would ever want to do with compressed files. In fact, WinZip supports many other compression schemes, including UUen[de]code, BinHex, MIME, TAR, ZIP, ARJ, ARC and LZH files. This makes it very convenient, as you will probably not need another compression program.
